200 employees to be laid off: SolarEdge in fifth round of layoffs within 3 years

SolarEdge is laying off approximately 200 employees worldwide, including 50-60 in Israel, in its fifth round of layoffs in less than three years. The layoffs come after initial signs of recovery but alongside a disappointing forecast for the third quarter. The company, with a market value of about $2 billion, is struggling with declining demand and repeated cuts.

The Israeli solar energy company SolarEdge is laying off approximately 200 employees worldwide, about 10% of its workforce, with between 50 and 60 of those laid off in Israel. This is the fifth round of layoffs at the company in less than three years, and it comes precisely after initial signs of recovery in its operations. These layoffs join a long series of efficiency measures: in January 2024, about 900 employees were laid off, including about 550 in Israel; later that year, about 400 more employees were laid off; in November 2024, the company closed its storage division in South Korea, a move that included laying off about 500 employees; and in January 2025, it announced additional layoffs of about 400 employees. The crisis stemmed from a combination of factors: in the US, high interest rates hurt the economic viability of installing solar systems on rooftops; in Europe, the war in Ukraine initially led to a wave of orders, but after energy prices stabilized, many distributors were left with large inventories. In the second quarter, the company showed improvement in results, but alongside a disappointing forecast for the third quarter. The company's stock rose by hundreds of percent during the year, but has weakened sharply since the peak at the end of May. The market value stands at about $2 billion.
