Yaakov Asher is the only coalition representative who participated in a Shabbat-desecrating program

Despite the uproar in the Haredi public and calls to cancel his participation, United Torah Judaism chairman Yaakov Asher was interviewed on the program "Meet the Press" on Channel 12 News, whose broadcasts began before the end of Shabbat. Asher was the only coalition representative to participate in the program, after other coalition members refused.

MK Yaakov Asher, chairman of United Torah Judaism, participated this evening (Saturday) in the program "Meet the Press" on Channel 12 News, whose broadcasts began before the end of Shabbat. This made Asher the only coalition representative to be interviewed on the program, after other coalition members, including Aryeh Deri and Itamar Ben Gvir, denied they would appear. The decision sparked an uproar in the Haredi public and among opponents within his party, who argued that participation in a program broadcast on Shabbat constitutes a desecration of Shabbat and a disgrace. A senior figure in United Torah Judaism told C14 that the participation is "a disgrace and a desecration of the holy Shabbat." The Gur Hasidic dynasty and the "Haredi Public" party also harshly criticized. Following the publications, Asher canceled an interview scheduled for Saturday night on the program "The Patriots" on Channel 14, but his participation in the program on Channel 12 News remained in place.
