The first public pool in East Jerusalem was inaugurated today (Wednesday) at the new community sports center in Beit Hanina. The project investment is estimated at about $20 million, and it includes an indoor swimming pool, a toddler pool, and a learning pool, alongside gyms, studio rooms, and public spaces spanning approximately 5,000 square meters. The center is designed to serve children, youth, adults, and families, and was established in partnership between the Jerusalem Municipality, the Ministry of Jerusalem, Mifal Hapayis, and the Jerusalem Foundation, with support from the Mandel Foundation and other donors. Residents of Beit Hanina were involved in the planning, and the center is expected to create dozens of jobs in management, instruction, and service. Mayor Moshe Lion said it is "history in East Jerusalem" and a fulfillment of the commitment to reduce gaps between parts of the city.
