"We undermined trust": An undercover agent brought down dozens of drug dealers in Israel

A known criminal was operated as an undercover agent by the Jerusalem District Police for ten months, conducting drug deals worth hundreds of thousands of shekels, leading to the incrimination of dozens of suspects. With the exposure of the operation, 28 suspects were arrested, drugs, over 100,000 shekels in cash, and 12 vehicles were seized. District Commander, Commissioner Avshalom Peled, said the goal was to undermine trust among criminals.

A large-scale police operation, conducted in secret for ten months, reached its peak this morning (Wednesday) with the exposure of an undercover agent and the arrest of 28 suspects for trafficking dangerous drugs across the country. The agent, a known criminal in the underworld, was recruited by the Central Unit of the Jerusalem District and used his reputation to penetrate the inner circles of drug dealers. During his operation, he conducted dozens of controlled deals, purchasing commercial quantities of cocaine, ecstasy, and other drugs worth hundreds of thousands of shekels. The deals were carried out with the accompaniment of the Jerusalem District Attorney's Office. Early this morning, large police forces raided the suspects' homes, including officers, Border Police fighters, National Guard personnel, and a canine unit. Over 100,000 shekels in cash, dangerous drugs, and 12 vehicles used for transporting drugs were seized. District Commander, Commissioner Avshalom Peled, said the goal was to harm the central elements flooding Jerusalem with drugs and to undermine trust among criminals. "No criminal in the field knows this morning whether the next deal will be the one that ends his path," he declared. The suspects will be brought to hearings for the extension of their detention.
