Watch a 3-year-old at the wheel: A man filmed him 'driving' — and was arrested

A 30-year-old man from Alkimos, Western Australia, filmed a 3-year-old child sitting on his lap without a seatbelt and driving a Toyota Hilux pickup truck on a residential street in Perth. In the video, the man can be heard laughing, giving the child instructions like 'straight, straight' and 'don't crash,' and even guiding him to mount the curb. At the end of the ride, he celebrated: 'We did it, a three-year-old driving a car!' The video was posted on social media and reached the Western Australia Police, who arrested the man the next day. He was charged with one count of reckless driving and is scheduled to appear at Joondalup Magistrates Court on October 2. The family relationship between him and the child has not been disclosed. Police Inspector Michael Della-Costa described the footage as 'very concerning' and warned that a car is not a toy. Former Police Commissioner Karl O'Callaghan called it 'one of the craziest and most dangerous things' he had seen. Minister Matthew Swinbourn warned that a child could have been killed. No accident or injuries were reported. The man has not yet been convicted.
