Turkey's contacts in Libya take a turn: "Soon you will hear good news"

A senior Turkish official revealed that Turkey hosted talks between the rival administrations in Libya with the aim of reunifying the country. The discussions focused on military unification, and Turkish Foreign Minister hinted at good news soon. The maritime agreement with Turkey was approved by the eastern Libyan parliament, angering Greece and Cyprus.

A senior Turkish official revealed that Turkey hosted talks last week between the rival administrations from eastern and western Libya, aiming to reunify the fractured country. The discussions took place in Ankara and focused primarily on military unification, while political unity is expected to be discussed at a later stage. Military and diplomatic figures from both sides participated in the talks, with Turkey acting as a mediator. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan hinted at the developments, saying the time has come to unite the rival administrations, adding: "Soon you will hear very good news about this from Turkey." The efforts are linked to Turkey's "Blue Homeland" doctrine, and last week the eastern Libyan parliament approved an agreement on maritime boundary demarcation with Turkey, a move that angered Greece and Cyprus.
