Trump reportedly considers firing Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth after midterm losses

US President Donald Trump is reportedly considering firing Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth following Republican losses in the midterm elections, according to multiple US media outlets.

According to a report on CBS News, U.S. President Donald Trump is considering firing Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The report comes after the results of the U.S. midterm elections, held today (Wednesday). Channel 14 reporter Ben Yaniv notes that reports about Hegseth's future began in the months following the end of the operation against Iran, but Trump has not yet acted on the matter. Yaniv clarifies that the timing, immediately after the midterm elections, may indicate genuine intent, as presidents often make changes after this point. It was also reported that Vice President JD Vance tried to explain the congressional loss with four reasons, two of which are related to Israel: ending the war, the cost of living, America First, and changing relations with Israel. Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr., shared Vance's remarks and agreed with them. According to the report, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is expected to replace Hegseth.
