US President Donald Trump announced that he has reversed his intention to broadcast the execution of Nidal Hasan, the Fort Hood shooter. The execution will be carried out by firing squad but will not be broadcast to the public. Trump cited consideration for those who do not wish to watch, but the victims' families will be able to witness the carrying out of the sentence.
US President Donald Trump announced that he has reversed his intention to broadcast the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, a former US Army major who carried out the massacre at Fort Hood base in Texas in 2009. The execution will proceed as planned by firing squad but will not be broadcast to the public. In a statement, Trump explained that he considered allowing the broadcast as a deterrent against terrorism but decided to refrain out of consideration for those who do not wish to watch the scenes. However, he announced that first-degree relatives of the victims will be able to view the execution in person. Hasan, who served as an Army psychiatrist, opened fire on soldiers and civilians at the base in November 2009. The attack killed 13 people and wounded more than 30 others. In his statement, Trump also criticized the conduct of security authorities during the Obama administration, claiming a severe intelligence failure enabled the massacre.
