Israel faces major transport disruptions starting November 5

Road and rail disruptions are expected across Israel from November 5, 2026, including closures of the Ayalon Highway, train service changes, and local roadblocks due to infrastructure work and a forecast storm.

Amid the expected stormy weather and extensive infrastructure work by the Israel Electric Corporation, heavy traffic disruptions are expected in central Israel this coming weekend. The Ayalon Highway (Road 20) will be completely closed during two time windows: from Thursday at 23:30 until Friday at 16:00, and from Saturday night at 23:00 until Sunday at 5:00. Certain entrance ramps will be blocked, and traffic will be diverted to alternative routes such as Roads 2, 4, and 5. Israel Railways will operate split and shortened lines with free shuttle services. Concurrently, a significant rain system is expected with unusual precipitation amounts of 100 mm or more, with concerns of flooding and flash floods, especially in the Dead Sea streams. Police recommend avoiding non-essential travel.
