Third quarter on the market: Nasdaq rose, oil fluctuated and crypto exploded

By sector, the insurance index surged by 26% and the banking index jumped by 13%, while the real estate index fell by nearly 10% and the cleantech (green energy) index dropped by more than 14%. On Wall Street, the Nasdaq index climbed by more than 5% and the S&P 500 index rose by 1.5%, but the Dow Jones index fell by 3.7% and the Russell 2000 (small-cap companies) index plunged by more than 4.5%. In the commodities market, oil prices experienced sharp volatility amid tensions between the US and Iran, with a surge of up to 25% during the quarter that moderated to an increase of about 6% overall. Precious metals, gold and silver, recorded declines of about 12%. The crypto market took the spotlight: the price of Bitcoin climbed by about 32% to a level of $87,000, Ethereum and XRP surged by about 40% and 43% respectively, and the Solana coin recorded a sharp jump of more than 60%.
