The people decide? 'Patriots' panelist shows the left
Yotam Zmeri, a panelist on 'The Patriots', criticized the left for inconsistency: on one hand they claim only the people decide in elections, and on the other they petition the High Court against Knesset legislation. Zmeri used an exaggerated example to mock the appeal to the court even on issues where the Knesset has already decided.
Following US President Donald Trump's public support for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, journalists and politicians from the left emphasized that only Israeli citizens will determine the election results. Yotam Zmeri, a panelist on 'The Patriots', published a sarcastic response, pointing out what he sees as inconsistency in the political camp's attitude toward majority rule. Zmeri wrote: 'All morning I hear journalists and politicians from the left... saying 'with all due respect, the one who decides is the people in Israel'', and added: 'We are talking about a camp that, when a bill passes requiring moving a pencil from a table to a drawer, petitions the High Court'. Zmeri mocked what he describes as a tendency to appeal to the court even on issues where the Knesset has decided. The jab refers to the ongoing dispute over the relationship between majority rule in the Knesset and the authority of the Supreme Court.
