The messages that preceded the White House press secretary's firing: "You don't need this"

The messages that preceded the firing of White House press secretary Katie Zakaria were revealed by the New York Post, showing that Zakaria herself initiated the failed interviews on Fox News that intensified criticism against her. She lasted only five days in the role, following a debut fraught with difficulties. She requested interviews in the morning and evening to improve her image, but the interviews only further entangled her when she was asked to explain why she had presented herself as a lawyer. Behind the scenes, rumors of power struggles spread, but the messages show Zakaria acted personally. Trump told her, according to him, 'You don't need this,' and shortly after, her tenure ended. Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany claimed Zakaria did not receive enough time to prepare.
