The lines Netanyahu omitted - revealed: The original documents, and those he presented to the state comptroller
An investigation by ynet and Yedioth Ahronoth reveals how Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu omitted and distorted original documents he presented to the State Comptroller. The comparison between Netanyahu's 55-page document and the summaries of discussions and testimonies reveals omissions, distortions, and manipulations regarding responsibility for the October 7 disaster: who warned, who recommended attacking, and who ordered maintaining calm.
An investigation by ynet and Yedioth Ahronoth, to be published on Friday in '7 Days', reveals how Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu built the version he presented to the State Comptroller in February 2026. For the first time, Netanyahu's 55-page document was placed against the original documents, summaries of discussions, and testimonies. The comparison reveals omissions and distortions, manipulations, and at times lies regarding the core questions of responsibility for the disaster: who warned, who recommended attacking, and who ordered maintaining calm. The investigation presents a picture opposite to the one Netanyahu presents: he dictated calm, did not approve targeted killings, declared that Hamas was deterred, and did not heed the warnings he received. In April 2023, Shin Bet head Ronen Bar and Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi recommended targeted killings in Gaza. In May, Netanyahu stated in the cabinet: "We have no interest in entering a campaign against Hamas!" In September 2023, the Shin Bet head warned of "a severe security situation different from our familiarity so far" and the possibility of arena convergence. Netanyahu concluded: "The goal - as quiet a holiday period as possible" and instructed: "Calm down!" The investigation also reveals how Netanyahu partially quoted from an assessment document by Brigadier General Amit Sa'ar, omitting warnings about the expansion of the campaign to Lebanon and the connection of Iran and Hezbollah. Three years after the disaster, there is still no official investigation, and Netanyahu uses his authority to release only parts that serve his version.
