A new poll among Jewish voters in New York positions NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch as a strong candidate against the first Muslim mayor, Zohran Mamdani. According to the poll by Honan Research published in the Forward, Tisch leads by a narrow margin of 44% to 42% in a hypothetical direct matchup. However, among all 967 Democratic voters surveyed, Mamdani leads by a wide margin of 54% to 17%, and enjoys a general approval rating of 73%. Tisch, who comes from a prominent Jewish family and expresses public support for Israel, has become a reassuring figure for many Jews in the city. The poll points to a complex picture: 45% of Jewish voters are satisfied with Mamdani's performance, but 44% believe it is time to replace him. In a separate poll, nearly two-thirds of Jewish voters expressed dissatisfaction with Mamdani's handling of antisemitism, while 75% praised Tisch's performance on the issue. Tisch has not yet announced an official candidacy.
