The film starring Kaplan protest leaders to be broadcast on Channel 13
26 days before the elections, Channel 13 will broadcast the film "Awakening" featuring senior Kaplan protest leaders. The filmmakers claim it is a documentary work, but critics identify a clear propaganda nature. Academic institutions refused to screen it, citing its political character. Network 13 rejects the claims.
26 days before the Knesset elections, Channel 13 will broadcast tonight (Thursday) the film "Awakening," featuring senior Kaplan protest leaders including Shikma Bressler, Ron Sherf, Ran Har-Nevo, Nava Rozolio, Moran Zer-Katzenstein, and the organization "Brothers in Arms." The film documents what it defines as "the struggle for democracy in Israel." The filmmakers, including Itai Leshem, stated they decided to broadcast it in Israel free of charge. On the Tel Aviv municipality website, the film appears under the title "Films worth watching just before the elections." According to participant pages, the Weizmann Institute, Holon Cinematheque, Herzliya Cinematheque, and others refused to screen it, claiming it is political. Haaretz wrote that the film is "effective as election propaganda but lacks a critical perspective." Channel 13 responded: "We strongly reject the attempt to censor a documentary work... 'Awakening' is not a propaganda film, but a clear and painful historical account." The Central Elections Committee stated that the committee chairman does not proactively review broadcasts and that his authority is judicial and depends on a petition, which has not yet been filed.
