The "Choosing Life" forum of bereaved families and terror victims harshly attacked today (Tuesday) the position of Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara in a petition she filed to disqualify Ra'am from running for the Knesset. The forum called the position a "legal and public scandal" and called on the Elections Committee to reject it. At the center of the criticism is the forum's claim of a connection between Ra'am and associations mentioned in the petition. The forum referred to interviews with Ra'am chairman Mansour Abbas, in which, according to them, he said he can account for every shekel of the association. The forum argues that in light of this statement and additional evidence, the claim that there is no real connection between Ra'am and its associations is not a legal interpretation but a "deliberate turning of a blind eye." The forum accused the Attorney General of attempting to legitimize Ra'am at any cost and choosing to serve as a "legal shield" for Ra'am, instead of protecting the state from connections to associations and terrorist elements. The forum clarified that it will continue to act to disqualify the list.
