Behind the scenes, an effort is underway to renew negotiations, but if the efforts fail - the deterioration could be rapid. This means that if negotiations do not progress, or if the Iranians fear a trick, they may carry out a preemptive move - first against the Americans in the Gulf and the Middle East, and then against Israel. The IDF maintains high alert and readiness both in defense and for going on the offensive if necessary, in full coordination with the US military. The alert level has been raised further ahead of the holidays. In security discussions, the difficult economic situation in Iran due to the American blockade, and the Israeli operation on the Ali Taher ridge in Lebanon, were marked as factors that could lead to escalation. Concerns include scenarios of missile launches from Iran into Israeli territory, or attacks against Israeli or Jewish targets abroad.
