Suspect who threw salt shakers at Bennett cursed during interrogation: "Whore"

The Tel Aviv District Court on Friday extended the detention of Elia Azard, a resident of Bnei Brak, who is suspected of throwing two salt shakers last night at the table where former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett was sitting at a restaurant in Bnei Brak. The police argued that this is a volatile period and defined the incident as "an attempt to harm a public figure." During his police interrogation, Azard stated that "everything is from God" and added: "Bennett is a whore." The defense attorney argued that there is insufficient evidence linking Azard to the act, but the Magistrate's Court judge ruled that the testimony of a police officer who was present at the scene is sufficient at this stage to establish the suspicion. The detention was shortened by one day by the district judge, who determined that the remaining investigative actions are limited and can be completed by Sunday. The defense's request to ban the publication of the suspect's name was denied.
