Suffering from sleep apnea? The new feature that will help you

Samsung becomes the first company in the world to integrate sleep apnea detection into a smart ring, the Galaxy Ring, alongside the Galaxy Watch 9. The algorithm received FDA approval and analyzes oxygen disruptions over two nights of monitoring. The feature is now available and is planned to expand to additional models.

Tech giant Samsung has announced a significant update to its sleep apnea detection capabilities, becoming the first company in the world to integrate this feature into a smart ring, the Galaxy Ring, alongside the Galaxy Watch 9. The system has received regulatory approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety of South Korea. The upgraded algorithm analyzes oxygen disruptions based on just two nights of monitoring within ten days, providing detailed insights into the severity of disturbances. The feature is initially available on the Galaxy Watch 9 with Wear OS 7.0 and above and the Galaxy Ring, and will later expand to the Galaxy Watch 7 and 8. Samsung emphasizes that this is an over-the-counter (OTC) digital medical application for detecting signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea in users aged 18 and over who have not yet been diagnosed, and it should not be seen as a substitute for a full sleep study.
