Airbnb has updated its regulations, limiting what hosts can require of guests. According to the new rules, which take effect on November 20, hosts are prohibited from requiring guests to perform cleaning tasks such as washing dishes, removing sheets from the bed, or taking out the trash, especially when guests already pay a cleaning fee. The company explained that it heard from the community that house rules can be confusing, excessive, or difficult to fulfill, and therefore redesigned them. However, there will be exceptions, such as a request to limit shower time in areas with water restrictions. Hosts will not be able to impose fines, but they can appeal a request that does not comply with the regulations.
