Sheba Medical Center was ranked sixth in Newsweek's 2027 ranking of the world's smartest hospitals, a rise of three places from last year. Sheba is the highest-ranked Israeli medical center on the list, and the only one among the five Israeli hospitals included to reach the top ten. The ranking, conducted in collaboration with research company Statista, includes 350 hospitals from 30 countries this year and focuses on the implementation of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and telemedicine. According to Sheba, among the initiatives advanced by the center is the establishment of an artificial intelligence center with an investment of about 100 million shekels, operating in partnership with OpenAI. The hospital developed the SmartER system and implemented tools for identifying patients for home hospitalization. The ARC innovation arm promotes research collaboration with the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and with Nvidia, and is expanding to Berlin and Boston. Prof. Yitzhak Kreiss, director of Sheba, said that an advanced healthcare system is a strategic infrastructure for national resilience. Prof. Eyal Zimlichman added that a smart hospital is measured by its ability to integrate technologies into daily work.
