In the United States, in the state of Tennessee, an unusual incident occurred during the execution of Christa Pike, sentenced to death for the murder of a classmate in 1995. The lethal injection procedure was carried out twice, but both times unsuccessfully: after two doses of the drug, the woman remained conscious, her heart continued to beat, and her breathing was accompanied by wheezing. Lawyers stated that the authorities stopped the procedure and took Pike to the hospital. This is the second case of a failed execution in Tennessee in 2026. The procedure was delayed by about nine hours due to conflicting court rulings. Tennessee Governor Bill Lee ordered a suspension of executions in the state until the end of the year. Journalists present as witnesses described Pike's condition as relatively alert. The condemned woman herself stated: 'I will leave this world the same way I spent most of my life. With love.' Later, Pike was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and PTSD. She told the police that she only intended to get into a fight, but during a fit of rage, she inflicted fatal injuries.
