A severe neglect case in Kentucky has concluded in court: James Kickhafer and Stephanie Abner, Lexington residents, were convicted of serious animal cruelty offenses after law enforcement rescued 46 Chihuahuas from their homes, kept in poor and life-threatening conditions. The investigation began in March 2023 following repeated neighbor complaints about sanitary hazards and strong odors. Upon entering the homes, investigators uncovered a horrifying scene of neglect: the dogs lived in overcrowded conditions, thick layers of feces and urine covered the floors, and a sharp ammonia smell caused eye irritation. Abner, found hiding in one of the rooms, told investigators: "I knew this day would come." Several sick puppies were transferred for urgent treatment, but some did not survive. Now, after the sentencing, the dogs are undergoing rehabilitation and will be offered for adoption.
