The Jerusalem District Attorney's Office filed an indictment today (Friday) against Pinhas Shem Tov Ran, a security coordinator in Samaria, for aggravated assault and obstruction of justice. According to the indictment, Ran entered the Palestinian village of Aqraba, outside his area of responsibility, ordered a Palestinian couple to stop, and after the driver continued driving, fired at least three shots at their vehicle. Two bullets hit the woman, one of which penetrated her chest and stopped near her heart. She was evacuated for hospitalization, underwent surgery, and required several days of hospitalization. The indictment also states that prior to the incident, following unusual events, military officials warned Ran not to exceed the boundaries of his sector. Ran claims in his defense that the vehicle sped toward them in an attempted ramming, and that he fired into the air. Following his arrest, security coordinators from the Samaria Regional Council launched a protest.
