Seats from the remnants of war.. Gaza schoolgirls resume studies among rubble and tents

In the al-Daraj neighborhood east of Gaza City, schoolgirls are resuming their studies in educational tents set up inside the Fahmi al-Jarjawi school, which was damaged by the war. The students face harsh conditions: sewage water at the entrance, wooden benches made from war remnants, and high heat inside the tents. Despite this, the girls express their joy at returning to school, while teachers try to address the educational gap through accelerated learning programs.

In the al-Daraj neighborhood east of Gaza City, schoolgirls are resuming their studies at the Fahmi al-Jarjawi educational point, a school severely damaged by the war that has been transformed into educational tents. The students face harsh conditions: sewage water pools at the entrance, piles of garbage spread in the vicinity, and destruction surrounds the place. The school benches are made from wooden platforms that were used to transport goods, locally known as "al-mashatih." Student Basant Hassouna (9 years old), who was displaced from the al-Tuffah neighborhood, recounts her wish to return to her home and school. Lujain al-Sarsawi (8 years old), displaced from the al-Shujaiya neighborhood, says she struggles with reading and spelling words. Teacher Rania Akila, who has been teaching for 24 years, tries to address the educational gap through accelerated learning programs focusing on reading, writing, and arithmetic, along with programs for psychological relief and learning through play. Akila notes that the main challenges are the tents, the weather conditions, and the large number of students.
