Russia's move after the agreement with Trump, and Zelensky's fury: "They used us as a smoke screen"
A Kremlin official announced the lifting of fuel export restrictions, following an agreement between Trump and Putin for the purchase of American diesel from Russia. Zelensky angrily attacked the agreement, claiming that the US used the Ukrainian negotiating team as a smoke screen. Meanwhile, Ukraine attacked an oil refinery in Rostov with 500 drones, and Trump reported an agreement to supply millions of tons of diesel from Russia.
Russia announced the removal of all internal restrictions on diesel exports, following an agreement between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin to purchase American diesel from Russia. The agreement marks a significant shift after years of American pressure on Moscow over the war in Ukraine. Axios reported that Trump advanced the deal after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ignored American requests to cease attacks on oil refineries in Russia. Zelensky harshly criticized the agreement, claiming that the US exploited negotiations with the Ukrainian team as leverage against Moscow: "They are using our negotiating team as a smoke screen." Last night, Ukraine attacked Russia with 500 drones, including a strike on an oil refinery in Rostov. Trump wrote on Truth Social that Russia will immediately supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel, an additional 500,000 tons in November, one million tons "immediately thereafter," and another 3 million tons "within a short period of time." Putin's senior advisor, Yuri Ushakov, said the call lasted an hour and a half and neither side wanted to hang up first. Meanwhile, Russia launched a missile attack on the city of Zaporizhzhia, killing at least seven people in a direct hit on a residential building.
