Separately, Rubio said Iran had "openly threatened to attack American interests globally" and warned of repercussions. The Fairford airbase is used by both US and UK forces and was used by the US to launch attacks on Iran. President Donald Trump criticized the UK's decision to release five suspects arrested in connection with the plot on bail, saying the US would not have released them. When asked if the incident was connected to Iran, Trump said it "might be" but declined to elaborate.
