A senior Hamas official confirmed to a Saudi newspaper that Ali al-Ammudi, considered the organization's leader in the Strip, was wounded in an Israeli strike two weeks ago. According to him, al-Ammudi was in the targeted apartment but was in a side area and survived with moderate injuries.
A senior Hamas official told the Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat that Ali al-Ammudi, considered the leader of the organization in the Gaza Strip and "Sinwar's successor," was wounded in an Israeli strike two weeks ago. The official, who refused to be identified, said al-Ammudi was in the residential apartment that was targeted but was in a side area and therefore survived with moderate injuries. According to him, al-Ammudi is in good condition and being treated in a safe location. This is the first time a senior Hamas official has acknowledged that Israeli intelligence was accurate in the strike target. Al-Ammudi, formerly head of Hamas's media apparatus, was released in the 2011 Shalit deal.
