Qatar announced on Friday an agreement with Lebanon to establish a comprehensive framework for energy cooperation, including a major investment project that will benefit the Lebanese economy and the participating Qatari entities. This came during a press conference held by Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam at the Grand Serail in Beirut, after meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri. Al Thani said his country stands with the Lebanese people during this difficult period, expressing Qatar's aspiration to strengthen the partnership with Lebanon in various sectors. He added that the two sides agreed on a comprehensive framework for energy cooperation and providing integrated solutions that enable the implementation of a massive investment project. Lebanon has been suffering for years from a crisis in electricity supply, exacerbated by the economic and financial crisis that began in 2019, and a shortage of foreign currency needed to import fuel for power plants. Al Thani described the Lebanese economy as one of the important economies in the Arab world, noting that the Lebanese people represent an effective force in the economic process and a key driver of the region's economy. On the security front, he stressed the need for all parties to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and for Israel to withdraw from all points it occupies.
