Public Works: 2,000 dangerous buildings, including 250 requiring urgent removal in Gaza

The Ministry of Public Works in Gaza announced that the initial estimate of dangerous buildings exceeded 2,000, including more than 250 requiring urgent complete removal. The buildings were distributed across governorates, with the highest number recorded in Gaza (over 700 buildings). The ministry stated that 880 buildings are still under assessment, and 320 have already been removed. The collapses resulted in 65 deaths, 270 injuries, and the displacement of about 5,000 families.

The Ministry of Public Works in the Gaza Strip announced that the initial estimate of buildings classified as dangerous exceeded 2,000, including more than 250 buildings requiring urgent complete removal using heavy equipment, and more than 870 buildings needing partial removal with labor and manual equipment. According to the distribution, the North Gaza governorate recorded over 520 dangerous buildings, including 42 requiring complete removal and 88 requiring partial removal. In Gaza governorate, the number exceeded 700 buildings, including 112 requiring complete removal and 490 requiring partial removal. In the Central governorate, over 300 dangerous buildings were counted, including 48 requiring complete removal and 122 requiring partial removal. Khan Younis governorate recorded over 480 buildings, including 48 requiring complete removal and 180 requiring partial removal. The ministry stated that 880 buildings are still under study and assessment, while 320 classified dangerous buildings have been removed so far. On the humanitarian level, the collapses of dangerous buildings resulted in 65 deaths and 270 injuries, in addition to the displacement of about 5,000 families from collapsed buildings. The ministry indicated that about 13% of buildings are classified as dilapidated and require immediate evacuation and removal.
