Iran's exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi told thousands of supporters at the 'Cyrus the Great II' gathering in Toronto on Saturday that the Islamic Republic is experiencing an 'active defection' phase, with military and civilian officials quietly breaking with the regime. Pahlavi described how, since the January uprising that killed over 40,000 Iranians, the opposition has regrouped and expanded networks inside Iran. He argued that regime officials remain outwardly within the system but no longer perform their functions, eroding the pillars of repression from within. Pahlavi placed January's protests within a longer cycle of unrest dating back to 2016, including the 2022 protests following Mahsa Amini's death. He cautioned against assuming imminent regime collapse, calling the overthrow a complex, multi-stage process. Canadian Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre also addressed the gathering, calling for stronger action against IRGC-linked individuals entering Canada. The event was organized by the Cyrus the Great Cultural & Humanity Organization, with over 3,000 attendees expected.
