Only Ukraine below — Turkey surprises with its position in an important ranking

A new Geo Mapped map, published based on the 2026 World Happiness Report, demonstrates life satisfaction levels in Europe. Turkey ranked second-to-last, scoring 5.3 out of 10, ahead of only Ukraine with 4.7 points. Finland topped the ranking with 7.8 points. The report was published in March by the Oxford University Wellbeing Research Centre in collaboration with Gallup and the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network. The data is based on the average of Gallup respondents' answers collected between 2023 and 2025. Turkey's score is notably lower than neighboring countries: Greece, Albania, North Macedonia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina scored around 5.7, Russia 5.8, and Bulgaria 5.9. Nordic countries continue to hold top positions. The authors emphasize that the ranking reflects subjective life evaluation, not economic indicators, and analyzes six factors: income, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom, generosity, and perception of corruption.
