"On the Path of Shireen Abu Akleh": Investigative Journalism Facing Exclusion
The I'lam Center launches four new grants for investigative journalism under the "On the Path of Shireen Abu Akleh" project, and honors journalists for two investigative reports, during a meeting in Ar'ara that discussed the delegitimization of Arab society and its political representation.
On Friday, the I'lam Center held a meeting in the town of Ar'ara as part of the second year of the "On the Path of Shireen Abu Akleh" grant project for investigative journalism, with the participation of journalists, political and cultural figures, and members of the family of the martyred journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. During the meeting, the center announced the launch of four new grants to support investigative journalism, with application details to be published soon, and winners to be announced and honored at the annual press conference on May 3, 2027, coinciding with World Press Freedom Day. The meeting was titled "Journalism in the Face of Delegitimization of Arab Society and Its Political Representation," and began with a presentation by researcher Khaled al-Sayed on the findings of a policy paper prepared for the I'lam Center, which examined political discourse during the Israeli election campaign. The paper monitored statements by politicians from the right and far-right between May and September 2026, comparing discourse before and after the election date was set, based on posts on the "X" platform and statements in mainstream media.
