Not the extreme candidates are the story: Support for Israel is eroding for another reason | Shlomo Shamir
Shlomo Shamir argues that reports of victories by extreme candidates in the Democratic primaries are exaggerated, and that the real erosion of support for Israel stems from the composition of the right-wing government. According to him, only a change of government in Israel will restore its standing.
In an opinion column in Maariv, Shlomo Shamir argues that reports in Israel about victories by extreme candidates in the US Democratic primaries are exaggerated. According to him, the Democratic Senate candidate in Michigan, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, will not have a significant impact on the party's policy toward Israel. Shamir asserts that the real reason for the erosion of support for Israel is the policy of the Israeli government, particularly its right-wing composition. He claims that hasbara (public diplomacy) will not help, and that only a change of government in Israel, a new government representing 'the beautiful Israel', will restore its standing.
