Not only Smotrich: Ofer Winter received far-reaching offers

Reserve Brigadier General Ofer Winter received far-reaching offers over the weekend to withdraw from the Knesset race but refuses. In Likud, they changed strategy and will focus on convincing his voters to vote for bloc parties, fearing a loss of 2-3 seats.

Reserve Brigadier General Ofer Winter received far-reaching offers over the past weekend to withdraw from the Knesset race, as C14 has learned. These are more significant offers than the public proposal made to him last week by Religious Zionism chairman Bezalel Smotrich, which included integration into government positions on his list's quota. Despite this, Winter stands by his refusal to withdraw from the race. Those close to him clarify that for him, the candidacy is a done deal and he is determined to run to the end, even at the cost of not passing the electoral threshold. In light of his refusal, Likud understood that efforts to convince Winter himself to withdraw have likely exhausted themselves, and therefore changed strategy. Now efforts focus not on him but on his voters: the religious-nationalist, ideological right-wing public. Likud fears that a separate run by Winter could cost the bloc 2-3 seats, which could decide the election outcome.
