Massachusetts man sentenced to nearly 10 years for antisemitic threats against Randy Fine, sons

A Massachusetts man, Edwin Guerrero, 26, was sentenced to nine years and 11 months in federal prison for making antisemitic threats against US Representative Randy Fine and his two minor sons. Guerrero pleaded guilty in March to making interstate threats and was ordered to pay a $15,000 fine. The threats, posted on social media from Spain in August 2024, included violent language and images. The judge found the threats were hate-motivated, and Fine testified that the threats against his children deeply frightened him.

Between August 10 and August 15, 2024, Guerrero used social media from Spain to post a series of antisemitic threats targeting Fine, who at the time served in the Florida House of Representatives. One post suggested Guerrero was traveling to Brevard County and included an image of an individual appearing to hold a firearm. Other posts contained violent threats against Fine and his sons, including references to the children as Jewish, and were accompanied by an image of a deceased man with significant head trauma. Investigators determined Guerrero was in Spain when the threats were made. After returning to the US, he admitted during an interview that he had used his social media account to send the messages. A search of his phone found antisemitic and anti-Israel content. US District Judge Anne-Leigh Gaylord Moe found the threats were motivated by hate, emphasizing the seriousness of threats against Jews and the need to deter threats against elected officials. Fine told the court the threats involving his children "made my blood run cold," and said his son David returned home from his first day of junior high to police protection. Fine described Guerrero as a "Muslim terrorist" in a post on X/Twitter. The FBI and Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigated the case.
