Nine people, including two children, were murdered in a mass shooting and prolonged siege in Erie, a city in northern Pennsylvania. Police were called to Perry Street around 5:00 PM on Friday after witnesses reported a person shooting a gun before entering a house. Two women were found dead on the street, and additional victims were found dead inside the home. The suspect, found dead at the scene, apparently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Erie Police Chief Rick Lora said it is difficult to describe a tragedy of this magnitude in words, and that there are no words that can adequately express the scale of the loss. Mayor Daria Devlin issued a joint statement with the city stating there is no further danger to the public. The motive is not yet known, and the investigation continues.
