Retired Chief Superintendent Mali Shoshana, the shift commander at the Sderot police station on the morning of October 7, 2023, returns to the site three years later. In an interview, she recounts the battle on the station's roof: she spotted a pickup truck with armed terrorists, went up to the roof with six officers, and they killed three terrorists. Later, a grenade was thrown at her—she picked it up and threw it back at the terrorists. When the terrorists breached the roof, she lay still and played dead. Yamam fighters rescued her. All the officers who were with her on the roof were killed. Shoshana describes her apprehensions ahead of the return visit, but also the triumph of meeting the fighters. She says she often goes back there to tell the story of the officers' heroism, even though the memories do not fade.
