Barak Bachar resigns as Maccabi Haifa coach after 4-0 loss to Maccabi Netanya
Barak Bachar resigned as Maccabi Haifa coach after a 4-0 home defeat to Maccabi Netanya, the team's third consecutive loss. Bachar announced his decision to owner Yaakov Shahar, citing the need for change.
Maccabi Haifa coach Barak Bakhar announced his resignation live on air this evening (Saturday), minutes after his team was defeated 4-0 by Maccabi Netanya at Sammy Ofer Stadium. The coach, who led the Greens to three consecutive championships, struggled to hide his emotion and announced the end of his tenure at the club following a string of disappointing results. "A very difficult moment for me. I say this with tears, the team needs a change," Bakhar said after the match. The dramatic resignation came at the end of a particularly tough evening for the Greens, who conceded four goals in front of their home fans. This is Haifa's third consecutive loss, having conceded no fewer than 11 goals in their last three matches. During the game, calls for Bakhar's dismissal were heard, alongside protests against sporting director Lior Rafaelov. Immediately after the match, club president Yaakov Shahar went down to the locker room and convened the players and professional staff. Initially, Maccabi Haifa announced that team members would not give interviews to the media, but later Bakhar stood before the cameras and announced his decision.
