Lost the election and summoned to hand over his passports: Brazilian police banned Bolsonaro from leaving the country

Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro was summoned to hand over his passports in order to prevent him from leaving the country, on suspicion of money laundering and corruption. Bolsonaro claims this is a political step following his election loss. He is also being investigated in connection with financing a film about his father and on suspicion of money laundering from a betting company.

Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro announced that he was summoned by the Brazilian police to hand over his passports, in order to prevent him from leaving the country. Bolsonaro is being investigated on suspicion of money laundering and corruption. According to him, the step was taken after his brother, Eduardo Bolsonaro, stated this week that if he loses the election, he will leave the country. The senator, who lost the election this week, claims the decision was made on Sunday night, immediately after the election results were published, and that it is a politically motivated step. He says he never thought of leaving the country and will hand over the passports. Bolsonaro is being investigated in the Brazilian Supreme Court on suspicion of involvement in financing a film about his father, Jair Bolsonaro, and on suspicion of money laundering related to a betting company. His announcement comes after incumbent President Lula da Silva was elected to the presidency for the fourth time.
