Jordanian border guards thwarted an infiltration attempt by four individuals through the northern military zone on Sunday morning, the second such operation in about two weeks, according to the Jordanian Armed Forces. The armed forces said in a statement that border guards spotted the four individuals attempting to cross the border illegally, dealt with them according to engagement rules, then arrested them and transferred them to the relevant authorities for legal action. They affirmed continued implementation of their duties in protecting borders and confronting infiltration attempts and illegal activities, while no immediate comment was issued from the Syrian side regarding the Jordanian statement. This operation comes about two weeks after the Jordanian army announced thwarting an infiltration attempt by an armed group of 14 individuals who came from Syrian territory and tried to cross the border in the northern military zone. A Jordanian military source at the time said the group tried to infiltrate under heavy cover fire and clashed with border guards who dealt with them according to engagement rules, resulting in casualties among them, while the rest fled toward the Syrian interior. Previously, the Jordanian army announced an airstrike targeting what it described as "dens of terrorist organizations" in southern Syria, while the Syrian government said the operation resulted in civilian casualties, asserting no prior coordination with Jordan, and opened an investigation into the incident.
