IDF Intelligence Directorate: Significant increase in threats against prime ministerial candidates

A representative of the IDF Intelligence Directorate told the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that analysis of social media discourse reveals a significant increase in threats against candidates for prime minister and senior party officials, especially ahead of election day. The IDF is preparing for scenarios of soldier abductions and attacks on bases.

A representative of the IDF Intelligence Directorate said yesterday (Tuesday) in a discussion at the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that analysis of social media discourse reveals a significant increase in threats against candidates for prime minister and senior party officials, especially ahead of election day. The IDF fears an attempt to carry out a "consciousness terror attack" before the elections to create chaos, and is preparing for scenarios of soldier abductions and attacks on IDF bases and civilian structures in Judea and Samaria. The high alert in the IDF has already begun. A senior security official told Kan News that there will be no choice but to renew the campaign against Iran in the future, but probably not before the elections in Israel and the US midterm elections on November 3. According to foreign reports, Israeli fighter jets practiced over Iraqi skies near the Iranian border, as part of a message to Iran not to attack Israel.
