"I was an outstanding student, a perfect high-tech family. And at night my brother raped me again and again"

Einav (24), a social work student at Tel Aviv University, recounts ten years of sexual abuse by her brother, her estrangement from her family, and her rehabilitation in a hostel. She calls on educators not to overlook quiet students who appear perfect.

Einav (24), an outstanding social work student at Tel Aviv University, tells Walla in an interview about ten years of severe sexual abuse by her older brother, from age 8 to 18. Outwardly, she was an excellent student from a normative high-tech family in the north, but at home, she says, she endured repeated rape. After leaving home at 18, she told her parents, but they chose not to believe her, and she is completely estranged from them. At 19, she experienced a severe mental crisis, was hospitalized at Ichilov, and later stayed at a hostel run by the "Ramot" association for young women at risk. Today she lives with a foster family in Petah Tikva and is finishing her first year in academia with a 95 average. She has not filed a police complaint against her brother, explaining that she chose not to invest resources in a complex process without evidence. In a message to educators, she calls not to miss the transparent and easygoing children who may hide deep distress.
