I'm direct, therefore I care: Empathy Israeli-style
Dr. Tamar Kena-Shalit, an anthropologist from Tel-Hai University, studies how Israeli coaching culture reshapes the concept of empathy. In an interview with Globes, she explains that Israeli empathy is based on directness and authenticity, in contrast to the American approach that emphasizes emotional inclusion. Her findings will be presented at a research conference in November.
Dr. Tamar Kena-Shalit, an anthropologist from Tel-Hai University, studies how Israeli coaching culture reshapes the concept of empathy. In an interview with Globes, she explains that unlike the American approach, which emphasizes emotional inclusion and validation, Israeli empathy is based on directness and authenticity. "If I tell you what I really think about the situation you're in, it probably means I really care about you," she says. The research was based on observations at three coaching training schools and in-depth interviews. Her findings will be presented at the Israeli coaching research conference on November 26.
