Researchers also varied the ratio of fats to carbohydrates. The effect was assessed using 20 biological markers, including insulin, cholesterol, and C-reactive protein levels. After four weeks, the estimated biological age decreased in three out of four groups. The most significant result was observed in the group with lower fat and higher carbohydrate intake: 53% of energy came from carbohydrates and 28–29% from fats. No changes were found in participants on a high-fat diet with an equal ratio of plant and animal protein. Researchers note that it is not yet known how long this effect lasts, and the results do not prove that such a diet extends lifespan or reduces the risk of age-related diseases.
