Gynecologist Guy Rofeh, accused of sexual offenses against a patient, filed a defamation lawsuit against social activist Maya Li Levi over publications she made against him. Rofeh was previously convicted in a disciplinary proceeding by the Ministry of Health for conduct unbecoming a physician. The lawsuit, filed last week at the Rishon LeZion Magistrate's Court, demands 75,000 shekels from Levi for damage to his reputation. In the lawsuit, Rofeh cites Levi's social media posts in which she wrote that he is a dangerous person, called him derogatory names, and noted that he continues to contact women while holding a medical license. Rofeh claims that Levi has judged him even though his trial has not yet concluded, and that she fabricated a figure allegedly harmed by him. Levi responded that this is a classic silencing lawsuit intended to intimidate women who speak out. She said she launched a crowdfunding campaign to deal with the lawsuit. Several complaints have been filed against Rofeh for continuing to present himself as an active physician even though his license was suspended, and he has been investigated by police. A few days ago, the Jerusalem District Court rejected his appeal against the five-year suspension of his license.
