From refugee in Israel to one of the activists fighting to overthrow the regime in Eritrea: "We will act by any means possible"
Dajan Mengasha, an Eritrean refugee in Israel, has become one of the activists fighting to overthrow the regime in Eritrea. In an interview with Kan News, he called on regional countries to join the struggle, against the backdrop of renewed fighting in northern Ethiopia, and raised the possibility of establishing an armed force of exiles.
Dajan Mengasha, 32, who arrived in Israel as a refugee from Eritrea at age 15, is now one of the activists fighting to overthrow the regime in Eritrea in favor of establishing a democratic government. In an interview with Kan News on Reshet Bet, he called on regional countries to join the struggle, against the backdrop of the chaos created by the renewal of war in northern Ethiopia and the dissolution of alliances in the Horn of Africa. Mengasha arrived in Mekelle to examine developments and operate within the framework of opponents of the Afwerki regime. He raised the possibility of establishing an armed force of Eritrean exiles, and clarified that his movement wishes to enlist the help of additional countries, including Ethiopia, Israel, and the United Arab Emirates. According to him, the struggle wants to ensure the establishment of a democratic government, and it depends mainly on Eritrean citizens. He claimed that this is a security interest of the countries in the region, led by Israel, because the Eritrean regime maintains ties with Iran and the Houthis. The struggle takes place against the backdrop of the civil war in Ethiopia (2020-2022) and the fear of the expansion of fighting into a direct conflict between Ethiopia and Eritrea.
