Football Association reveals start date of the 'Cup of a Thousand Martyrs' tournament in Gaza

The Palestinian Football Association has announced the start date of the 'Cup of a Thousand Martyrs' tournament in the southern governorates of Gaza, on Saturday, October 3, 2026, with the participation of 50 clubs. The tournament will be held on four fields, and comes in honor of the martyrs of the Palestinian sports movement.

The tournament, named 'Cup of a Thousand Martyrs', will see the participation of 50 clubs, a number that reflects the continuation of sports activity in the sector despite the difficult circumstances. Sami Abu Al-Hussein, Assistant Secretary-General of the Football Association, explained that the tournament will be held on four fields: Palestine Club Stadium in Gaza City, Palestine Stadium in Nuseirat, Services Club Stadium in Deir al-Balah, and Deir al-Balah Union Club Stadium. Abu Al-Hussein confirmed that the association's committees are making great efforts to arrange matters and provide the necessary capabilities for the tournament to start on its scheduled date. He pointed out that the participating clubs were divided according to their geographical distribution: 24 clubs representing the clubs of Gaza and the north, and 26 clubs representing the clubs of the center and south. He also added that the association has completed arrangements with colleagues in the northern governorates upon the arrival of the financial grant provided by the association to the participating clubs, which is expected to arrive before the start of the tournament to enable the clubs to fulfill their responsibilities. Abu Al-Hussein wished success to the participating clubs, stressing the importance of everyone coming together to make the tournament a success in honor and loyalty to the martyrs of the Palestinian sports movement.
