As part of the fraud, Reed fraudulently withdrew approximately €215,000 from the Scottish Pension Authority after claiming benefits intended for end-of-life patients. She used the money to fund trips and a vacation in Dubai. A court sentenced her to two years in prison. Following the criminal conviction, the Nursing and Midwifery Council held a disciplinary hearing and decided to permanently expel her from the profession. The hearing determined that her conduct was prolonged, deliberate, and pre-planned for personal financial gain. Reed attempted to claim Munchausen syndrome, but a social worker's report concluded there was no medical indication for this diagnosis. The committee concluded that there were no signs of insight or remorse.
