Following the death of Israeli hiker Ami Yogev on Mount Olympus in Greece, Ilana Shoshan, an experienced lawyer and mountain climber, shares her personal experiences from climbs around the world. She describes how she caught the mountain bug during a trek to Everest Base Camp, where she experienced altitude sickness and had to be evacuated by helicopter. Shoshan recounts climbing to the summit of Kilimanjaro (5,895 meters), experiencing static electricity on the Cotopaxi glacier in Ecuador that forced an immediate descent, and a failed attempt to ascend Aconcagua (nearly 7,000 meters) due to fierce winds of 100 km/h. She also describes a trek around Mont Blanc. Her key message: every mountain presents its own challenges, experience does not guarantee immunity, and one must approach nature with humility. "The summit is an option. Returning home is a must," she writes.
